MARGIE ROBERTS
I understand that we are in a new millennium, but I have learned so much from my grandmother she would elaborate on how things used to be. I truly believe we all can learn a thing or two from our ancestors not just in good cooking but also in the human spirit, respect and honor.
It is important for this new generation to eat right and substitute some unhealthy foods in our diet.
We often say history repeats itself; well I’m here to tell you history starts now!!!

From My Heart to Yours
Grandma was always known as the “Ark” of the family: Strong, beautiful, Independent, Clean,
Wise, and Nurturing. My grandma was a fantastic cook. She would often experiment with several different kinds of spices making her own special sauces.
Grandma made the best pancakes in the world; they were as big as a dinner plate. Then she would top it off with her own homemade syrup. On Saturday mornings, grandma would get up early, get dressed, brew a pot of coffee right over the stove. The aroma from the coffee was definitely our alarm clock. Grandma knew we would be downstairs as soon as the coffee finished brewing. At that time we would submit our requests as if we were at a restaurant placing an order, I was like a kid in a candy store; grandma would make biscuits, eggs with cheese/olives, salt pork bacon, grits, fried chicken, fish and more. She would be open to all requests, but it came with a price.
Grandma would begin to tell us about the family’s history while we sat and watched her cook. Grandma was very outspoken. She had a unique flair with words, and was a great story teller. Grandma would often talk about how time and etiquette have changed, comparing how it was when she was a child. I would listen and wait with anticipation for my breakfast, while she spoke words of wisdom and knowledge.
Grandma taught me to be the best in life. “Dare to Dream” the impossible, make a great name for
yourself, believe in yourself , carry yourself in a dignified respectable manner, and be an example to your community. She often spoke on getting an education and leaving a legacy for my children to follow. Through the years I learned from my grandma by watching her cook, worship God, and provide for the family. She was an awesome example of a hard worker and a God fearing woman, who became my role model and inspiration for cooking.
